The following poetry has been written by Alfred lord Tennyson. I translated it into Persian, although I believe translating a poem is the most difficult job, and it's not possible to convey the emotional effect of the poem and translate the feeling that a native speaker enjoy the poem to the target language , therefore I hope you tell me the deficiency of my translation by commenting and criticizing it. It should be noted that this poem is converted into a short story in which has published in the literature 1 sound and sense (it is a book which is taught in the universities of Iran as the course of literature ). I hope this poem would be useful for the students of English language in general and English literature in particular. The title of this poem has a verbal irony

 Finally, I should thank to my dear professor Mrs. RASHIDIPOUR , our literature professor ,because she led me to change my ideas and attitudes toward life and the world.

Tears, idle tears

اشکها, اشکهای بیهوده

Tears idle tears, I know not what they mean

Tears from the depth of some divine despair

Rise in the heart and gather to the eves,

In happy autumn fields,

And thinking of the days that are no more.

 

Fresh as the first beam glittering on a sail

That brings our friends up from the underworld.

Sad as the last which reddens over one

That sinks with all we love below the verge

So sad, so fresh, the days that are no more

addictin and family life

The Effects of Addiction on Friends and Family

 

Chemical dependency is the loss of control over an addictive substance.

It is an illness that strikes randomly throughout the population. It happens to people at all income levels, of all races, any age and both genders.

It does not result from a lack of willpower or loose morals.

Rather, it’s a terrifying, destructive, progressive illness that if left unchecked results in death or disability. As with any serious illness, the family and friends of the victim are profoundly affected.

As the addict’s life becomes more and more out of control, family members often scramble to pick up the pieces and fill in the gaps. The bills still have to be paid. The kids need to eat. The job needs to get done. Life has to go on.

So family members work harder and harder to make up for all the emotional and practical things the addict is no longer capable of tending to. As a result, the family members’ lives become more and more focused on the addict and less on themselves.

الحمد لله رب العالمين *

إيّاك نعبد و إيّاك نستعين *

 

Thee only we serve; to thee alone we pray for succour.

 

اهدنا الصراط المستقيم *

 

Guide us in the straight path,

 

صراط الذين انعمت عليهم

 

the path of those whom Thou hast blessed

 

غيرالمغضوب عليهم ولاالضّالين *

 

 Not of those against whom Thou art wrathful, nor of those who are astray.

Sometimes your joy is the source of your smile, but sometimes your smile can be the source of your joy


A warm smile is the universal language of kindness

Smiling makes you feel better about yourself, even if you don't feel like it. And it always makes other people think better of you.

A smile is a light in the window of a face that signifies the heart is at home and waiting

Life is like a mirror, we get the best results when we smile at it

You are never fully dressed until you wear a smile

A smile is an inexpensive way to improve your looks

Beauty is power; a smile is its sword.

Keep smiling - it makes people wonder what you've been up to

Peace begins with a smile

Every tear has a smile behind it.

No matter how small, a SMILE on your face tells all

What sunshine is to flowers, smiles are to humanity


Smiles are unbreakable- -and mend broken hearts

Smiles are great investments: the more you collect, the better you feel

Be multilingual; smiles are the universal language

A laugh is a smile that bursts

A smile is just a frown upside-down

A smile is as nice to give as it is to receive               most smiles start with another smile.....         

Though Smile cannot erase our burden, but it sure does make us feel lighter...
